St. Paul and The Broken Bones: ‘Broken Bones and Pocket Change’

September 24, 2012 0 comments

Featured last month in the latest version of Birmingham, Alabama’s B-Metro, St. Paul and the Broken Bones are a new band from Birmingham who have recently caught our attention with their song ‘Broken Bones and Pocket Change,’ the only recorded track to emerge from the band’s debut EP, that reportedly should be out November 18th.

Packed full of soul with that hint of Southern charm and horn section highlights, we were sold from first listen. Add the live amateur YouTube video we stumbled across, and we see nothing but potential. Keep an eye out on these fellas and stream/download their debut track ‘Broken Bones and Pocket Change’ below (compliments of B-Metro):

The Kingston Springs: ‘Lowest of Animals’

September 20, 2012 0 comments

We are big fans of The Kingston SpringsThe Vacation Time’ EP that dropped a couple years ago, and have been highly anticipating the release of their debut full-length, which comes out October 2nd.

Well… the wait for new material has finally ended!

Get the first taste from the band’s new self-titled LP below with the single ‘Lowest of Animals.’ A great little ditty that was definitely worth the wait. And if you’ll be in Chattanooga in a couple weeks, The Kingston Springs will be swinging this way in support of the release on Tuesday October 9th at JJ’s Bohemia with locals Eight Knives. See their full list of live dates HERE:

Lace Curtains: ‘The Garden of Joy and the Well of Loneliness’

September 18, 2012 0 comments

So, last December we gave you ‘part 2’ of our hypothesis about the Austin band Harlem breaking up (see full article HERE), which consisted of a quick round-up of new projects featuring  2 of the 3 members: Grape St (fronted by Curtis O’Mara) and Daytona (featuring Jose Boyer).

But the question we had at that time… What is the remaining member Michael Coomer up to these days?

The answer: He has been hard at work recording under the name Lace Curtains, a band that consists of only Coomer at this time, with no real plans to tour.

The outcome: ‘The Garden of Joy and the Well of Loneliness,’ a hands-down amazing full-length that reflects some of the more chiller vibes from both ‘Hippies’ and ‘Free Drugs,’ but with those same hooks and killer song-writing skills we have grown to love with Harlem. This record has honestly not left our turntable in weeks.

Check out a couple tracks from Lace Curtains’ debut album below and pick-up a copy HERE… Worth every penny:

Lace Curtains: ‘Bedroom Honesty’

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Lace Curtains: ‘High Fantasy’

Mystery Twins: ‘Arrow’

August 8, 2012 0 comments

Mystery Twins are a Nashville 2-piece we have just started to get into. The band, who released a 6-song EP earlier this year, just announced a new 7-inch single that is dropping September 22nd via Theory 8 Records. The A-side is called ‘Arrow’ and can be streamed below… I think what we like most about these guys is the haunting The Dutchess and the Duke vibe they have going, but of course, with a bit more of a punch.

Also below, is their EP ‘Love Is Strange,’ which dropped back in May and is available on cassette/mp3 HERE… And if you’re diggin’ it and are in the Nashville area tonight, swing by The High Watt, where the band is playing with Chattanooga locals Bohannons. Click HERE for tickets and once it becomes available, pick-up your ‘Aarow’ 7-inch HERE:

Houndmouth: New Songs Live from Chattanooga!

August 1, 2012 0 comments

We LOVE us some Houndmouth, who instantly became one of our favorite bands just earlier this year. And we were more than excited when the band announced their signing to Rough Trade Records later last month… Via their new label, the band will be releasing a 4-song self-titled EP pressed on 12″ vinyl this month that will be followed later on by a full-length LP.

You may be familiar with the main songs on the upcoming EP by now from our January article, but while this 4-piece were in Chattanooga opening for Those Darlins at the Chattanooga Whiskey party held at Track 29 on June 2nd, we got a little taste of what possibly could be future LP songs! We are not 100% of what the final titles will be, but at the time of this article, the new songs are ‘On The Road’ and ‘Comin’ Around Again.’

So just sit back and enjoy these 2 new live tracks below!… and pre-order Houndmouth’s debut EP HERE which drops August 21st in the U.S:

If you’re not familiar with Houndmouth, get that way. Here are some already classic-to-our-ears tunes you need to know (and are featured on the new EP):
