We are huge fans of King Tuff‘s 2008 release ‘Was Dead,’ so today was a special day for us… a day that some people have been calling King Tuff day. Not only does this Tuesday mark the release date for Tuff’s follow-up, self-titled LP via Sub Pop (CD/LP/MP3) and Burger Records (cassette), but the release of the video for the LP’s first single ‘Bad Thing.’

Check out the video below along with a full album stream of the LP and free download of ‘Bad Thing… Oh and pick up your copy HERE (CD/LP/MP3) or HERE (cassette):

Clear Plastic Masks: ‘When the Night Time Comes’

May 29, 2012 0 comments

Clear Plastic Masks are a new band from Brooklyn who have been warming our ears lately… Once digging around for some live footage of the 4-piece, we stumbled across this gem shot by Birmingham, Alabama’s Joshua Shoemaker (who is better known for his work with Alabama Shakes). It features this amazing performance of ‘When the Night Time Comes,’ from when the band stopped by Birmingham this Spring:

We are sure that has left you hungry for more! Catch the band August 3rd at Birmingham’s Bottletree, and hopefully a few more Southern dates this summer… Maybe even Chattanooga? (hint, hint) — Also stream the band’s EP and new 7-inch below, and of course, if you dig what you hear, pick up both HERE:

Denney and the Jets: ‘Come On’ feat. Jessi Darlin

April 5, 2012 1 Comment

Nashville’s Denney and the Jets have just finished recording a 4 song EP at Bomb Shelter Studios, the now famous recording space where Alabama Shakes recorded their debut LP ‘Boys & Girls.’ But during that session, a track was born that doesn’t appear on the EP… a Chuck Berry cover that features the one and only Jessi Darlin from Those Darlins!

Thanks to Denny and the Jets, the single isn’t going to die on the cutting room floor, but flourish on the internet! Check out this AMAZING track below that is available to stream and/or free download… oh, and before you even listen… you’re welcome! Enjoy:

UPDATE (4/6): A small correction, along with Jessi, this song was recorded with Natural Child in their recording space, not at Bomb Shelter

GET TO KNOW: Summer Twins

April 5, 2012 0 comments

It is already feeling like Summer down South, which not only prematurely starts the rise of our pollen count and the breeding of mosquitos, but starts our quest for the perfect soundtrack to Summer. Oh course we have our trusty stands-bys: A dash of Little Joy, a side of Devendra Banhart and you can’t forget Tennis’s debut LP — all Summer essential albums… but what is another season without adding a couple more LPs to that ever-growing list?

After digging into Summer Twins‘ self-titled LP, we are officially proclaiming our first new Summer jam… I guess there is no hiding behind the name and it helps to be from California, but this LP just screaming beach-time classic. A nice blend of Tennis meets Best Coast, take a listen for yourself and stream the full LP below:

Unfortunately this album is sold out in vinyl and cassette tape format. We were lucky enough to score a vinyl earlier this year, but if MP3s are alright with you, download the LP HERE

GET TO KNOW: Lemont

April 3, 2012 1 Comment

Lemont is a new band from Lemont, PA (residing in Pittsburgh) fronted by Joshua Gragg of Black Band Coal Company and American Minor who just released a new demo to their slowly growing collection. The track is called ‘The Plasma Sun’ and has been no stranger to our headphones the past 24 hours. The self described “super lo-fi ruff demo” was recorded in member James McClure’s basement and blended with a recording from Josh’s iPhone in a parking lot… Reguardless of how it was made, this track is definitely worth the download and will leave you hungry for more. Stream or download yours below…

…And to hold you over until their next demo, check out previously released Lemont tracks below:

Lemont: ‘Heart to Beat’

Lemont: ‘The Middle’

Lemont: ‘Together We Will Wait’
