Clear Plastic Masks

In the past few months, this Brooklyn 4-piece have won our hearts as one of our favorite discoveries of 2012. We have never had the opportunity to see them in-person and are excited to bring these guys back down South for their Chattanooga debut. The boys have an EP and 7-inch available now with more in the works. Check’em out below:

Banditos

Banditos are no strangers to Chattanooga… Our last encounter with this Birmingham, Alabama crew was earlier this year at JJ’s Bohemia, where they shared the stage with locals Strung Like a Horse. And ever since, we’ve been thirsty for more! Check out a killer live take and stream their latest full-length ‘The Filthy Sessions’ below:

Eight   Knives

Local band Eight Knives are definitely the newest of the 4 acts, but will fit in just nicely, kicking things off at 8pm. By the time July 27th rolls around, this will only be the band’s 5th show. So far 8K has opened up for national acts Terry Malts, Ultras S/C and most recently, Those Darlins and Houndmouth.

GET TO KNOW: Grand Strand

June 4, 2012 0 comments

A lot of people asked us after the Those Darlins show this Saturday at Track 29, “What happened to Kelley Darlin?” And the answer we had was the same: “Kelley [whose real last name is Anderson] left the band a couple months ago to work on other projects and is now fronting a new band called Grand Strand.”

We too were very upset by the news of Anderson’s departure from Those Darlins, but just seconds into hearing Grand Strand’s fantastic debut single ‘Cactus Blooms,’ we quickly embraced this new career change and found ourselves hungry for more. The 7-inch single for ‘Cactus Blooms’ will be out later this month on Riot House Records followed by a full length in the future.

But no worries, you’ll be able to experience Grand Strand sooner than you’d expect! The new band is hitting the road this month opening for Richard Lloyd of Television, a tour that is dropping by Chattanooga’s Lindsey Street Hall June 20th! We can’t wait! But until then, stream the new single and check out the full June tour dates below:

Quiet Life: Petroleum Free Tour

November 15, 2011 0 comments

If you’re a long time follower of The South Rail, then you should be familiar with Portland, Oregon’s Quiet Life. Back in the Spring of 2010 we gave away 3 copies of their debut EP ‘California Vacation,’ around the same time they were finishing a tour as backing-band for Port O’Brien

Well, what a difference a year makes! Quiet Life now have a debut full-length under their belt (which is available to stream HERE) and are currently on-tour opening for Philadelphia’s Dr. Dog… a tour that is swinging by Chattanooga THIS FRIDAY (11/18) with David Vandervelde via Track 29!

A very cool thing about this tour is that Quiet Life are rolling petroleum free, cruising throughout the states without using a drop of gas — instead fueling with only used vegetable oil! They are currently taking their “grease bus” van that fills-up using “freedom fuel” donated from various businesses along the way.

Check out the mini-documentary “Freedom Fuel: A Petroleum Free Tour” below to see what it takes to get this band to Chattanooga… They’ll definitely need some grease while their in town Friday.  If you’re interested in donating your used vegetable oil, please contact them at quietlifeband@gmail.com … and as you will see below, they’ll be more than grateful for your donation:

Quiet Life’s debut full-length, ‘Big Green,’ is available NOW! Pick up a copy at the show (or HERE) and stream the entire album HERE, and check out a few videos below. Tickets are still available ($15 advance/ $17 day of show), get yours HERE… and see you Friday!!!
