The David Mayfield Parade: Bring it to JJ’s 2/25!

January 12, 2012 1 Comment

The David Mayfield Parade just announced  — with a low-tech sheet of paper — their February’s tour dates which includes Bluegrass Underground in McMillville, TN and RIGHT HERE in Chattanooga at JJ’s Bohemia on Saturday 2/25!

David Mayfield’s band released their self-titled LP around this time last year, which is slam-packed with Avett Brothers guest appearances and made it on The South Rail’s Top 20 Albums of 2011 list. Our guess is we’ll be hearing songs from that album as well as some new tunes… maybe even some special guests?

If your not farmilar with David Mayfield Parade, or missed them last year at Rhythm and Brews, check out a couple key tracks below and get ready for the 25th!

Also check David and his little sis’ Jessica Lea Mayfield w/ The Avett Brothers a few years back. Great stuff:

Get To Know: The Dirty Lungs

July 26, 2011 0 comments

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, If you haven’t seen The Dirty Lungs live, GO DO SO! With that said, we are huge fans of Birmingham, Alabama’s The Dirty Lungs, who will be taking the stage this Thursday at JJ’s Bohemia along side Tony Wayne and the Chain, another great band which features members of Fastboys/Giant Tiger/Black Painter.

We spoke with Lungs’ frontman Carson Mitchell this weekend who informed us the band has dropped from a 5-piece, to a band of 4. “Our sound has morphed a bit, a lot heavier on the Garage/Surf influence, a little more aggressive as well.” We can’t wait! Check out why this is a must-see band. The video below for ‘Your Wrong’ was recorded as a 5-piece and was a South Rail video of the week earlier this year, but it truly shows one of this band’s strong points: a great live sound! Check it out, along with The Dirty Lungs’ full EP catalog… and see you Thursday night!!!

GIANT TIGER: Unreleased EP Download!

July 25, 2011 1 Comment

Giant Tiger was a local Chattanooga band who still sit near and dear to our hearts. The band ended over 2 years ago, somewhere around their last show in June 2009. During their short career as Giant Tiger, the band had recorded some great music and performed one of the best live shows at the time. Their only release, the 7-song EP ‘Me. We,’ printed on pink 10″ vinyl, still rocks our stereo on a monthly basis…

But right before their break up, Giant Tiger were in the process of releasing a 4-song EP titled ‘Feelin Weird,’ that was mixed, mastered and ready to go. Other than a song uploaded to their myspace page, this EP has never seen the light of day… UNTIL NOW!

For a limited time and exclusively from The South Rail, stream/download the 4-song EP, ‘Feelin’ Weird’ below, courtesy of Young Monster/Giant Tiger:

Giant Tiger: ‘Feelin Weird’ EP by thesouthrail

We know, it’s such a tease to hear killer tunes you can’t see preformed live anymore, but since the break-up, Giant Tiger can now be seen in different forms: Posters/Clothing/Record Label Young Monster and bands: Fastboys, Tony Wayne and the Chain, Black Painter, Mocknbird, Night of the Wolf, The Bohannons…

Long live the music of Giant Tiger, one of our favorite bands:

New Song From Free Energy: Hangin’ (live)

July 23, 2011 0 comments

If you were in downtown Chattanooga Friday night, then you had the pleasure of catching a free show from Free Energy… and also a first taste from their upcoming, as-of-yet unrecorded record. During their set at Nightfall Music Series, the band broke into a couple of new songs, including Hangin,’ which was recorded at that performance and can be streamed below.

Catching up with the band after the show, they reported that this November they’ll be recording the follow-up to 2010’s ‘Stuck On Nothing’ in Woodstock, NY and the song Hangin’ is that album’s first single.
